This homemade detox bath recipe contains just 4 ingredients and takes minutes to rustle up.
Yet it’s still incredibly cleansing and relaxing, with it’s key ingredients of Epsom salt and lemon essential oil.
Taking time out to sink into a relaxing bath probably doesn’t make it to the top of your ‘to do’ list very often (especially if you’re a mum!), but treating yourself to a 20 minute soak in a detoxifying bath can have incredibly rejuvenating effects. Plus, I bet you deserve it!
Boost your health naturally
The ancient Romans and Egyptians were definitely in the know about the benefits of a good bath and, for them, it was often a daily event, carried out as much for health and beauty reasons, as it was for cleanliness. As the popularity of the ancient bathing spas grew, it became a big old social event too.
Now I’m defiantly not recommending you invite all the neighbours round for a good chin wag in the bath (that could lead to all sorts of trouble!), but I am suggesting you take a leaf out of Cleopatra’s book (she was BIG on baths) and treat yourself to a relaxing bath once a week or so.
Cleopatra was of course, notorious for bathing in milk, but unless you have an extremely generous cow or asp on hand, you might have to make do with my homemade detox bath recipe instead. It’s:
- lusciously lemony
- great for naturally boosting magnesium levels
- an effective detoxification aid
- a natural way to relax and unwind your body
- good for muscle aches
- calming for the mind.
The main ingredient is this detox bath recipe is Epsom Salt, which contains naturally occurring magnesium sulphate.
Magnesium is often deficient in our body in modern society and according to Ancient Minerals, magnesium can:
‘help our bodies maintain balance, avoid illness, perform well under stress, and maintain a general state of good health.’
Sounds good to me!
The Epsom Salt Council in fact recommends an Epsom salt bath as an easy way to increase the body’s levels of both magnesium and sulfate.
The recipe also also contains lemon essential oil, which is calming in nature and therefore great for stress. If you prefer, you can supplement with lavender oil – another essential oil good for anxiety and stress.
Here’s how to make your Lusciously Lemony Homemade Detox Bath Recipe:
Lusciously Lemony Homemade Detox Bath Recipe
Ingredients:
- 350g Espom salt (Dead Sea salt will work just as well)
- 150g sea or Himalayan Rock salt
- 100g baking soda
- 15-20 drops lemon essential oil (or lavender if you prefer)
Instructions:
Step 1 – Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl.
Step 2 – Add 15-20 drop of the lemon essential oil (or essential oil of choice).
Step 3 – Transfer your detox bath salts into an airtight container (I use an appropriately sized Kilner jar)
And that’s it! All you need to do now is jump in the bath.
How to Use Your Detox Bath Recipe
Run a bath and add a cup or two of your bath salts mixture to the running water. Swirl the water around a bit and leave to dissolve as the water runs. Don’t have the water too hot, as this is not good for your skin.
Soak for around 20 minutes for optimum benefits. The salt can have a slightly dehydrating effect, so I always have a glass of water after a detox bath.
