‘Parenthood. The scariest hood you’ll ever go through.’ (Anonymous)
Want to have a good old laugh at the whole parenting shebang?
I’ve got 21 quotes that should help!
There’s an old Yiddish proverb that says, ‘What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.’ And it’s so true.
I once announced indignantly to my hyper creative Little Lady that ‘Mummy is not a human Pinterest board filled with an endless array of engaging activities involving Play Doh and multi coloured pipe cleaners’.
This came at the end of a looooong series of creative activities and I simply couldn’t look another glue stick in the eye.
Fortunately, my Little Lady was 3 and didn’t have a clue what I was on about, so no harm done.
But rather than launch myself into a barrage of self criticism, I could have done worse than to laugh light heartedly at myself, recognised I should have taken a break earlier and said:
‘Oh dear, listen to Mummy, I think she needs a break from the glue stick!’
The point is we can’t always get it right. And sometimes seeing the funny in life can really help.
Kids laugh between 300 and 500 times a day
For the average adult it’s about 15 times.
I think nature is trying to tell us something!
Science has proven laughter is good for us and this article from parent.co explains how making laughter a part of family life can hugely benefit both us and our kids.
For me, parenting is literally the most joyous and rewarding thing anyone can possibly have ever done since the dawn of time, dinosaurs and big bangs. But it’s also hard.
So letting off steam with a good old chuckle can work wonders.
With around 84 million mums and 70 million dads in the US alone, whilst it might sometimes feel like it, you are not alone in the parent ‘hood’.
Here are 21 quotes about parenting that are both funny and relatable for when you want to take parenting a little less seriously…
