Natural rubber pacifiers can be a great way to help you sooth your baby or infant, especially if you have a baby that struggles to sleep.
To be honest with you, when my daughter was a baby, I didn’t intend to use a pacifier at all. But some of our big ideals just seem to end up flying out the window when the reality of having a tiny bundle actually kicks in!
Plus of course, every baby is unique and some just have big sucking needs. Which is fair enough as it gives them great comfort. Whilst much of the time this can be met by breastfeeding (if you choose to breastfeed), some babies just seem to need that little extra help soothing themselves. Especially at nap time.
But which are the safer, more natural pacifiers to choose? Although BPA is thankfully now banned in some baby products, such as bottles and sippy cups, research suggests BPA and potentially harmful chemicals are still common in many pacifiers.
So choosing a pacifier that’s made of 100% natural rubber, with no chemical softeners or artificial colouring can be a good way to go. Rubber is also a softer option to silicone and doesn’t tend to leave marks on baby’s face. Rubber is also biodegradable.
Below you’ll find 4 of my favourite natural rubber pacifiers for baby:
1 – Hevea Pacifiers

There are 3 pacifier shapes to choose from – orthodontic, round or symmetrical teat/nipple and 2 age sizes – newborn (0-3 months) and 3 months +.
For babies who prefer a larger nipple, there’s also a Star & Moon orthodontic pacifier.
The Hevea pacifiers feature ventilation holes to aid comfort and are designed to be gentle on baby’s face. You’ll also find that they’re moulded from a single piece of rubber, avoiding cracks and joints, where germs can accumulate.
Hevea recommend you replace their pacifiers every 2 months.
2 – UMMY Pacifiers

The pacifiers are washed thoroughly to eliminate nitrosamines and have passed N-Nitrosamine levels testing in both the EU and the US.
It’s again manufactured in one piece, so there are no joints or cracks, which helps reduce the risk of bacteria build up. Three large ventilation apertures on the shield also help prevent skin irritation.
The largish shield size also helps prevents baby from squeezing it enough to fit into the mouth.
UMMY pacifiers come in a variety of shapes and sizes, including orthodontic, round and elongated nipple.
3 – Ecopiggy Ecopacifiers

The pacifier features a round shield, which lightly touches baby’s nose, helping to emulate the soothing feel of breast feeding. Again, it’s moulded in a hygienic, single piece design, helping to avoid bacteria build up in cracks/joints or choking hazards from small parts.
The Ecopacifier comes in two styles; Orthodontic and Rounded, as well as 2 sizes – 0 to 6 months and 6 months and over.
4 – Natursutten Pacifiers
Natursutten pacifiers are Danish designed and made in Italy from 100% natural rubber, sustainably sourced from the Hevea Brasiliensis tree. They are BPA, PVC and phthalate free and also contain no chemical softening agents or artificial colours. Natursutten product details also state the pacifiers are nitrosamine free.
The pacifiers feature a hygienic one-piece design that’s free of joints or cracks where bacteria may accumulate. A larger shield on the Original Design touches baby’s nose, which is designed to aid comfort and more closely simulate breastfeeding. You can opt for the round shape which sits over baby’s nose or the butterfly design, where the shield sits comfortably below it.
The Natursutten Pacifiers come in a range of sizes according to baby’s age (0 to 6 months, 6 to 12 months, and 12 months+) and are available with an orthodontic or rounded nipple.
It’s recommended the pacifiers are replaced every 6 to 8 weeks, since it is a natural product and doesn’t contain the same levels of stabilising chemicals that conventional pacifiers do.
Natural Rubber Pacifiers – A Final Word
If you’re looking for a pacifier that’s made of natural materials, these 100% natural rubber pacifiers have been made with the health of baby in mind.
Not only is natural rubber free of chemicals such as BPA and pthalates, natural rubber can also be a good choice over silicone, due to it’s soft flexibility. This can help the pacifier to form better to baby’s mouth and doesn’t leave marks on baby’s face.
Whatever pacifier you choose, I always recommend searching for pacifiers that are free from artificial colours, chemical softeners, parabens, PVC and phthalates.
